What is Trans-Urethral Microwave Therapy (TUMT)?
Trans-Urethral Microwave Therapy is a FDA-approved technology which provides relief from urinary frequency without surgery, general anesthesia, needles or drugs. TUMT is an outpatient procedure, and in a select group of patients can help alleviate most if not all symptoms of BPH. The patients on whom the TUMT procedure is effective, could avoid taking medications for BPH. Because transurethral microwave therapy (TUMT) is so safe, it is a good alternative to traditional surgery for some patients. Dr. Ebrahimi who offers this outpatient procedure, believes patients who are considering TUMT should think about it if they are having mild urinary symptoms according to the AUA symptom score.
What if TUMT is not effective?
If the patient is deemed not a good candidate, or fails transurethral microwave therapy (TUMT) there are other options such as transurethral laser vaporization of prostate or the traditional and gold standard transurethral resection of prostate.
