Trans-Urethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT)
Trans-Urethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) is an endoscopic procedure which helps treat and diagnose bladder cancer. The tumor is cauterized and removed from the bladder with the aid of a rigid cystoscope. For superficial bladder tumors, sometimes tumors may be simply cauterized or destroyed with a laser. Trans-Urethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) needs to be performed with general or regional anesthesia. The complications are bleeding, risks of anesthesia, bladder perforation, and injury to ureteral orifices.
